Our Home

We have been in our new home since March of 2006.  We have been busy painting the interior and starting to work on the landscaping.

Below you can see some of the changes that we have done since moving into our dream home.

You can see some of the comparison pictures below of the outside of the house.

This is the house as we originally purchased it.A picture will be coming soon that will have the new roof, door and the changes in the landscaping that we have started.

From the entry way looking into the formal dining room. This is the new formal dining room.  We still have the crown molding to put up and the curtains that my mother made.  The problem we are having is finding the curtain rods at this time.

This is the altar table in the formal dining room.  The Kwan Yin is white jade.  I made the floral arrangement that is next to her.  The horses have a companion piece in our bedroom. This is an antique Japanese silk screen that was imported into the USA prior to 1905.  Prior to 1905 the country of origin was required.  After 1905 the phrase "Made in ..." was required.  What appears to be water stains are in fact a special process that is no longer done.

Looking directly into the formal living room from the entryway.  This was the formal living room when we were first considering the purchase of the house. This is the way we have changed the formal living room.  It has the gold walls with a lighter gold ceiling.  The entryway will be a lighter shade of the gold up to the master bedroom which is also in shades of gold.

Looking from the family dining room into the family room.A picture will be coming of this area soon.  While there is plenty of light in the room, the pictures do not turn out as well as expected.

The space above the bed will have artwork which is currently on order.  This bed was on order for 5 months, and then we found it online and it was delivered in 4 days!

My mother made the quilt which has dragons in the center block.

This is what we are calling the reading area which is in the master suite.  With the screen in place it is a very private and relaxing area.  It has a window that you can look out into some evergreen trees.

This is the matching dresser to the bed which we were able to pickup locally but the store was never able to get the bed.  The picture over it is a companion piece to the dining room piece which shows the horses in a playful mode.

This room was originally painted a sage green when we bought the house.  Underlying coats of paint showed a dark purple and the rug has some spots of white in it if you look closely.

Projects that we have done since moving into this house:

We have replaced the roof.  When we purchased the house it had a cedar shake roof.  In the inspection it was determined that parts of the roof needed to be replaced.  After this was completed there were a number of shakes that had to be replaced.  When completed it looked very bad, so this was one of the first things that we did.

We have completely re-done the landscaping as you can see with the pond.  We have also removed a number of trees and put in new trees throughout the yard.  The landscaping is expected to be completely finished by 2009.

With the exception of the guest bedroom and the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms, the house has been completely repainted.  My mother has sewn new curtains for each room.  There are several rooms where we would like to add crown molding, but we have not found the right molding as of yet.

We plan on doing a renovation to the kitchen and the master bath, but no dates have been set for those as of yet.  And, we will be doing some additional work in the family room, but it is minor work and is more of a tweak which will be to change the bookshelves to floating shelves and have the television hung rather than on a stand.
