Asian 2004

This is the first year that we have been able to have the antique Japanese screen out and the Asian tree out at for Christmas.

This tree has ornaments from both the Christopher Radko and Patricia Breen lines as well as other lines and non designer lines.  As you can imagine, it is hard to fine ornaments for an Asian inspired tree.

On this tree there are approximately 1200 red and amber lights with approximately 60 of the amber lights being covered in the small Chinese lantern covers.  There are approximately 600 ornaments on this tree with some of these being antique Chinese silk ornaments.

A close-up of the fans and the 30 inch Chinese pheasant feathers that made up the top of the tree.  Some of these fans were antiques that if you look at the picture above you will notice that they match the faces in the screen above.

My original concept for the fans and feathers were that they would be more of a finial concept, but then when we moved into this house the formal dining room did not allow for that idea as there was not enough room as the ceiling was only 7 feet at the area where the tree was to be placed.

This is the tree before any of the ornaments were placed on the tree or the light covers.  The light covers were considered and placed as ornaments in the overall concept of decorating the tree.

Detailed Images of the Asian Tree 2004

Several images from the Asian tree.  Ornaments by Radko, Breen and others.

While viewing the Asian tree, your eyes would also be drawn to this display on our Chinese altar table.  The center of the table portrays the Nativity as presented by Christopher Radko.  The three finials are by Radko as well.

This tree is always a fun one to do, as I can let my imagination run wild with it.  I already have 3 different ideas I am working with for next year!  The story above tells everything about it, so when you are done, please select the SW link, as we will be walking through the kitchen to get to the SW Tree.  Watch out for the people in the kitchen.  We always seem to lose a few of the tour as we go through the kitchen.
